Philosophy

I’ve never believed people struggle with their homes because they lack taste.

Most people already know what they’re drawn to.

The real problem is that modern homes are often built through disconnected decisions – one room at a time, one Pinterest save at a time, one purchase at a time – without understanding how everything is interacting as a whole.

So people end up with homes that are technically “nice”, but still feel unsettled.
Beautiful, but emotionally flat.
Expensive, but strangely disconnected.
Functional, but not fully supportive of the life being lived inside them.

Because home is not just visual.

It’s psychological.
Physiological.
Emotional.
Spatial.

The spaces we live in shape how we think, regulate, rest, connect, create and move through daily life. They affect our nervous systems, our habits, our relationships and our sense of identity – often far more than we realise.

That understanding sits at the centre of everything I create through Beaten Green Living.

I’m an interior designer, stylist and creator of The Beaten Green Method – a framework that helps people understand the kind of home they’re truly trying to create before making endless isolated decisions that never fully come together.

My work blends practical design guidance with emotional and psychological recognition.

Because I don’t believe good design is about following trends.
I believe it’s about coherence.

A home should feel aligned with the people living inside it.
It should support the rhythm of their life.
It should reflect identity, not performance.
And it should feel calming, supportive and deeply lived in – not just visually impressive.

Over the years, I started noticing patterns in the way people approached home.

Some people were searching for calm and stability.
Others needed freedom and openness.
Some craved belonging and warmth.
Others were driven by creativity, stimulation or meaning.

Those deeper emotional needs were often shaping design decisions long before paint colours or furniture choices entered the conversation.

That observation eventually became the foundation for the Style Archetypes and Expressions inside my work.

Not as labels.
But as recognition tools.

A way of helping people understand why certain spaces resonate so deeply, why some homes feel emotionally safe while others feel draining, and why trying to copy someone else’s aesthetic often leaves us feeling disconnected from our own spaces.

My own understanding of home was shaped as much by life as by design.

In 2019, my family emigrated to Australia with little more than a suitcase each. Five months later, we returned home the same way. That experience changed my relationship with home entirely. It stripped everything back and forced me to understand what actually creates a feeling of belonging, safety and identity within a space.

Since then, life has continued teaching me that home is not static.

Sometimes it expands.
Sometimes it simplifies.
Sometimes it becomes a place of restoration.
Sometimes it becomes a container for reinvention.

Whether I’m living lightly through a season of shed living, supporting renovation clients through complex decisions, or helping someone finally understand why their home has never quite felt “right”, the work always returns to the same core belief:

Our homes shape us while we are shaping them.

That’s why my approach focuses so heavily on the bigger picture first.

You can’t make good micro-decisions without a clear macro-view.

Without understanding the emotional tone of the home, the flow of the space, the nervous system impact of the environment, or the deeper identity underneath the aesthetic, people often stay trapped in cycles of second-guessing, overspending and visual overwhelm.

My work is designed to create clarity before complexity.

Through one-to-one design support, Project Home, HomeFOLK Studio, the Style Archetypes and my educational content, I help people create homes that feel more coherent, more supportive and more deeply connected to who they are becoming.

Not perfect homes.

Real homes.

Homes that hold life well.
Homes that create calm.
Homes that restore energy rather than deplete it.
Homes that feel lived in, grounded and fully aligned.

Because when a home truly supports us, everything else tends to function differently too.
