The most versatile home office layout
As part of the Soulful Home series I have been taking you behind the scenes of artist, Tara Leaver's clifftop barn conversion, and sharing all of the interior designs room by room. With only the home office layout and living room designs still to share, we are nearly at the Before and After stage of the project, which I can't wait to reveal!
(You can find links to the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom designs at the end of this post).
Tara's property is a small Cornish barn conversion situated a clifftop walk away from the beach. Having relocated some 300 miles to find her feels like home, Tara's mood board comprises most of her life-long home ambitions to date. It comes complete with plenty of painted wooden panelling, an ocean inspired colour palette and a cozy cottage interior.
The property itself has two bedrooms with a dedicated art studio being built in the generous gardens. As part of the brief, the second bedroom needs to play a flexible role in the house, and morph into a room of requirement. The design will need to incorporate both a bedroom and home office layout.
This space will need storage for visiting guests as well as a place to store cleaning and laundry equipment. It will need to provide a comfortable, but occasional place to sleep. It will also need to offer a practical place for Tara to work on the administration side of her business AND a cozy inviting atmosphere to harmonise effortlessly with the rest of the house.
A Day bed
A day bed or sofa bed for guests, or for quiet office reflection. We chose the Loaf Kipster day bed as it also works as a great looking sofa and fitted well into our design.
A multitalented wardrobe
As part of the home office layout, we asked the builders to install a bespoke wardrobe which is to be made from painted, moisture resistant mdf. Tara chose louvre doors for added interest and we included a secret partition at the back to store Tara's electric laundry airer. This wardrobe will be painted the same warm white colour as the wall behind, as we didn't want to make a feature of it.
A Low Level filing cabinet
A low filing cabinet for office storage can double up as a side table for guests sleeping over. Tara already had a low filing cabinet that works perfectly for this purpose but other options could include this example from Wayfair for under £70.
A Work desk
A desk positioned underneath a window to provide natural daylight and an exterior view. This helps to reduce glare whilst governing wakefulness . We chose the Ginsberg for £329 from Swoon Editions.
Accessories
Cozy accents such as throws, cushions, rugs and lamps to promote a restful nights sleep as well as fresh flowers to provide a welcoming office environment. We chose a neutral moroccan rug with a deep pile, a fake fur throw and cushions with plenty of texture. These accessories can be found in the full home office layout design below.
