Scandi Classic
If you love a strong trend, clean lines, and a contemporary vibe then Scandi Classic is your style.
Scandi Classic celebrates the Nordic style wholeheartedly.
The Scandi Classic style can be mixed with mid century furnishings for a more distinctive feel, softened with some vintage pieces or pared back for a minimalistic finish.
Here are a few important principles to follow for the most successful finish.
How to style your home
‘Scandi Classic’
5 Tips
The Scandi Classic style, whilst popular, can be interpreted in many ways allowing us to create uniquely distinctive interiors.
These five design tips include the most distinguishing features of a Nordic interior which, when used as a framework, can help us to create our own versions of this contemporary style.
Here’s how:
1) Geometry
The definition of geometry is
The properties, measurements, and relationships of points, lines, angles, and figures in a space.
The shape or form of a surface or solid.
A design or arrangement of objects in simple rectilinear or curvilinear form.
A Scandi Classic interior will use geometry in a variety of ways.
Examples include using simplistic shapes in artwork, the installation of hexagonal, triangular, diamond or rhombus shaped tiles, round mirrors and even the framework of furnishings such as wooden lattice on sideboards or the shaped back of a wirework chair.
2) Simplicity
The definition of simplicity is –
The freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts.
The absence of luxury, pretentiousness, ornament, etc.; plainness.
The Scandi Classic style is renowned for its’ clean lines and simplicity is key to replicating the feel of this modern interior.
From the tapered table legs to the cut-away drawer handles, and from the line drawings to the clutter-free counter-tops, everything is designed and styled with simplicity in mind.
This way the details and featured geometry play centre stage.
3) Ergonomics
The best definitions of ergonomics are;
Ergonomics draws on many disciplines to optimise the interaction between the environment and the user.
Ergonomics is an applied science concerned with designing and arranging things people use so that the people and things interact most efficiently and safely increasing productivity and reducing discomfort.
Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging spaces, products and systems so that they fit the people who use them.
The Scandi Classic style favours ergonomically designed furnishings to fit efficiently into the layout.
Some great examples can be found in dining chairs, office chairs and bar stools.
Their streamlined silhouettes also tick the geometric and simplistic boxes.
4) Detail
Put simply;
The attention to or treatment of a subject in individual or minute parts.
With all the pared back refinement of a contemporary Nordic scheme, the subtle detailing provides a unique touch.
And with such a clean, stylised finish, the details really do stand out providing simple focal points or colour contrasts and enhancing the simplistic interior.
Quiet, symmetrical, understated features work best in these tranquil spaces.
5) Minimalism
Often confused with a masculine, sharp-cornered interior, minimalism simply means
Offering no more than what is required or essential.
Creating a simple and uncluttered space.
Using simplicity, clean lines, and a monochromatic palette with colour used as an accent.
An exercise in restraint, where space, lighting, and objects play equally important roles.
Whilst most Scandi interiors favour monochromatic or neutral schemes, adding colour or accent furnishings in alternative genres can produce a more individual interpretation of the Classic framework.
